Who puts on the Natural State Criterium Series?
BikeNWA is the 501(c)3 non-profit organization behind the Natural State Criterium Series, but the race would not be possible without volunteers and the generous support of our sponsors. The vast majority of the work involved is undertaken by a volunteer race committee with paid staff support from BikeNWA.
What is a criterium (or crit race)
A criterium is a bicycle race that takes place on a closed course, usually a paved road in the urban area of a city. The course is less than 1.2 miles long and provides for an exciting spectator viewing experience since the racers come by ever 2 to 7 minutes. Criterium races are times lasting anywhere from 25 to 70 minutes. Racers race as the clock winds down until 3 laps to go is called by the race official. Whoever crosses the line after those three laps is the winner. For more information click here.
Why put on a race?
We want to build community and improve the quality of life for residents of Northwest Arkansas: By holding a national caliber road cycling event in our downtown areas we are exposing people to bike racing that may not be familiar with professional and amateur cycling. Our goal is to provide residents and visitors a world class (and free) event that is fun for people of all ages, regardless of whether they own a bike.
To help the cycling culture thrive in Northwest Arkansas: We hope that this race series inspires people of all ages to get out and ride a bike. We hope that at least one child who watches a race walks away thinking that they would like to race a bike someday and let them know that there are more options beyond football and basketball.

We need volunteers!
We cannot put this race on without support from the community. We have all types of volunteer positions from helping out at registration to helping watch corners and course barricades to keep the racers safe. Help us make the 2018 Natural State Criterium Series a success!
Interested in hosting a professional race team in your home? This can be an exciting way to see the inner workings of a professional cycling team. Often friendships are made that last years, and we see hosts asking for the same team to come back the following years. Click here to fill out our Host Housing Provider form.
